Our Objectives

STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES AND MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA



1. Name

The name of the Group is Bedfordshire Area Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (bacpa) hereinafter called the “Group”.

2. Objectives

2.1

To promote education, training and support for counsellors and psychotherapists and those using counselling skills or working in counselling related activities in either a paid or voluntary setting, whether full or part time, with a view to raising the standards of counselling and psychotherapy for the benefit of the community served and in particular for those who are the recipients of counselling and psychotherapy.

2.2

To advance the education of the public of Bedfordshire on the subject of counselling and psychotherapy in order to promote the good health of the local community.

3. In furtherance of these objectives the Group may

3.1

Act as a local body for the purpose of consultation in matters of education or public interest concerning counselling and psychotherapy.

3.2

Identify and promote appropriate standards for the practice of counselling and psychotherapy.

3.3

Print, publish and circulate gratuitously or otherwise, relevant papers, pamphlets, newsletters and other documents.

3.4


Keep and publish a list of members which may include their qualifications and experience.

3.5

Arrange and provide educational events for members and/or non-members relating to counselling and psychotherapy.

3.6

Invite and collect subscriptions and donations to the funds of the Group by any lawful means.

3.7

Do all such lawful other things as may be necessary for the attainment of the said objectives.

4. Membership

4.1

Membership of the Group shall be open to any counsellor or psychotherapist living within Bedfordshire or the surrounding area, who meets the criteria laid down by the Group.

4.2

Members shall hold or be working towards an appropriate professional qualification.

4.3

Any person who regularly uses counselling , psychotherapeutic or related skills may also be considered for membership.

4.4

An application for membership may be approved or rejected by the Committee. The Committee shall have the right for good and sufficient reason to terminate the membership of any person provided that the person concerned or their representative shall have the right to be heard by three members nominated by the Committee, before a final decision is made.
