About bacpa
Bacpa - Bedfordshire Area Counselling & Psychotherapy Association. The bacpa is a non-commercial organisation which is managed
by voluntary committee. Any profits raised are reinvested in its
aims and activities.
A short history
BACPA (Bacpa - Bedfordshire Area Counselling & Psychotherapy Association ) was conceived as an idea when two founder members were waiting together at a job interview. Whether either of them got the job I don't know, but they wanted a support group for counsellors and therapists. Half a dozen or so members met in 1996 to discuss what they wanted, training workshops and mutual support in what can be an isolating profession. They also wanted to promote the availability of counselling locally, and the idea of the directory evolved. In 1998 the first directory was produced and work will soon start on the 7 th edition.
An important method of communication in the Association has been the Newsletter which has been produced quarterly since 1998. This enabled the spread of news and airing of ideas among the membership.
BACPA has striven to put on at least two workshops a year since the early days. At first these were a skill-sharing of members' special interests, which was very valuable at the time. Now that many members have become accredited, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements have become more sophisticated. We now aim to present workshops by leading practitioners in the field as well.
In furtherance of our aims to promote counselling with the general public, the Website should increase accessibility for potential clients.
